about

A Mango Alley regular, Movement Machina returns to the high-profile imprint with a full-length debut album of scope, vision and creativity.

An artist that tries to challenge convention and traditional thinking, Movement Machina has been at the vanguard of underground electronic music since a June 2016 debut for Mareld. Going on to witness a host of prestigious original releases, the Finnish artist has seen his music allied to such impressive imprints as Anjunabeats, Toolroom and Silk Music.

July 2017's "No For An Answer" saw a Mango Alley debut including a remix from Brazilian star, Andre Sobota, while a series of original EPs throughout 2019 that included "Unit Five / Vega", "Bill Clay / Ellis", "Plaza Sierra" and "Darkrooms" continued to showcase a burgeoning talent.

Now, a project that saw its inception in summer 2019 sees "Analog Politics" come to fruition. Crafted and curated with rare passion and attention to detail, Movement Machina has taken a lead role in all aspects of the album's development – from musical production to artwork design and mastering at Finland's renowned Finnvox Mastering Studios. The result is a body of work that bristles with a dynamic energy and trademark melodic ingenuity, centred around the duality of everyday life within the cold, harsh world of "conflicting interrelationships among people" and Machiavellian notions of power and authority. "Analog Politics" thus presents an antidote to life's harsher realities by forging a path through rich analogue soundscapes to a sphere of light and influence, finding a passion for life and meaningful connections with the world around them.

Reflecting this juxtaposition between the integrity and warmth of the 'analogue' world with the superficiality and scheming coldness of 'politics', "Analog Politics" saw Movement Machina compose the album on only analogue equipment before refining and sculpting it in the digital realm. Through a combination of intricate rhythmic backdrops that flow through the 13-track opus, the rolling groove and hypnotic arpeggio of "Badge" and heavy beat of ticking hi-hat shuffle of "Tremors" mingle with a triptych of subtle interludes and pitched vocal treatments that break-up the album into its different movements.

Thus, the rich sonic architecture and textured soundscapes of "Link", "Passenger" and "Reference", contrast with heavy bassline power and angular lead-line of "Knight" and the mesmeric "4000 Dreams". Imaginative and innovative across its entirety, the driving techno beat and evolving arpeggios of "Versus" and "Ilsa" showcase another side to the Finn's production prowess.

Through a unique musical vision and a strong narrative thread, Movement Machina has successfully tied a selection of dancefloor cuts and more experimental interludes to create a wonderful collection of tracks that take a fascinating glimpse into the world of "Analog Politics".
